Here is a list of some of my favourite movies (some old, some more recent) :

North by Northwest
An excellent adventure/comedy film starring Cary Grant and directed by Alfred Hitchcock.

Pirates of the Caribbean - The Curse of the Black Pearl

Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man’s Chest

Pirates of the Caribbean - At World’s End
Entertainment for the entire family, with a good performance from the lead actors, particularly Johnny Depp with his off the wall portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow.

Raiders of the Lost Ark

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Harrison Ford in a fast paced adventure series set originally in the 1930’s and progressing tothe Cold War years in the last instalment. Each movie contains action and humour, shot in exotic locations around the world. A rollercoaster ride for the viewer. My personal favourites are ‘Raiders’ and ‘The Last Crusade’.

Fistful of Dollars
For a Few Dollars More
The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Clint Eastwood at his best in Sergio Leone’s ‘Spaghetti Westerns’. Fabulous photography, now seen even better in the re-mastered special edition DVD releases.

Master And Commander - The Far Side of the World
A film adaptation of some of the best bits of Patrick O’Brians naval books. Starring Russell Crowe in the Role of Jack Aubrey.

The Terminator and Predator
Two movies starring Arnold Swarzenegger.
In The Terminator, Arnie plays the role of a cyborg sent back in time to ‘kill’ the mother of a freedom fighter for the human race who has yet to be born who would eventually bring down the machines which had taken over the world. In Predator he plays the role of the leader of an elite commando force sent into a South American jungle to retrieve a senior military commander along with important secret information that has potentially fallen into the hands of the enemy. However, unbeknown to all an alien has been using the area over a period of years as a hunting ground where it stalks and kills humans. The alien is very strong with a formidable array of weapons and has the ability to become vitually invisible to the human eye. The movie builds up the tension and there are a number of impressive action set pieces.

Das Boot
Superb movie chronicling life aboard a Second World War U-Boat. A sense of claustrophobia and wars futility is achieved by the director Wolfgang Petersen. Good action sequences. Remember that this was all before the advent of CGI and other computer enhanced effects.

The Bourne Identity

The Bourne Supremacy

The Bourne Ultimatum

An excellent trilogy following the exploits of Matt Damon as Jason Bourne. Jason Bourne is an American agency operative who has undergone a type of brainwashing indoctrination to aid him achieve his mission objectives. Unfortunately for his clandestine agency, Jason has a memory loss and along with the viewer he doesn’t know who he is or for whom he works. The movie traces his journey as he tries to unravel his secretive past whilst members of his agency endeavour to terminate him with extreme prejudice.

Die Hard

Die Hard 2

Die Hard with a Vengeance

Die Hard 4.0

A Good Day to Die Hard

Bruce Willis in a gung ho action movie with mayhem and destruction all the way.

Bruce Willis plays cop John Mclane who is always in the wrong place at the wrong time ...particularly for the bad guys. John McLane pursues a crusade against the doers of evil and in spite of their best efforts to eliminate him. He survives to bring them all down.

Great escapist entertainment.

Lethal Weapon

Lethal Weapon 2

Lethal Weapon 3

Lethal Weapon 4

Mel Gibson (Martin Riggs) and Danny Glover (Roger Murtagh) play American cops in these movies. Joe Pesci and Rene Russo join them in the later movies. Great action with loads of humour and interaction with secondary characters make these films hugely enjoyable.
